FISH SPECIES OF PÁRNICA LAKES
The water areas around the trail consist of two fishing grounds managed by the local organization of the Slovak Fishing Association in Dolný Kubín. It is the Párnica Gravel Pit 3-4170 and the Disconnected River Arm (DRA) Istebné 3-2620. It is the DRA that offers fish more hiding places and a more natural environment. This district covers an area of about 13 ha and consists of 8 lakes interconnected by small flows. The lakes are fed by three smaller streams originating in the Malá Fatra Mountain Range, which enrich the water with nutrients and a variety of aquatic animals. The constant flow creates suitable conditions for fish life. The common carp, the goldfish, the silver bream, the common bream, the common tench, the grass carp, the common perch and many other smaller fish species can be found here.
Among the native species, there are the European chub, the vimba bream, the northern pike and the zander. We can also find the golden carp, which is our native carp fish. It prefers overgrown water areas, stagnant or slow-flowing waters. This species of native fish is slowly disappearing from our waters, but it is still thriving in Párnica. It is certainly worth mentioning the fact that there are beautiful fishing spots, especially in the DRA Istebné fishing ground, which are well hidden by the local vegetation. It is interspersed with small islands and trees growing out of the water, which suits the fish and aquatic animals. The DRA is located in a beautiful environment surrounded by the Malá and Šípská Fatra Mountain Range and the Choč Mountains, which you can read more about on the following boards.
